CHARTER ISOMER
Isomer is a Belgian association that advocates for evidence-based medical treatments to meet the therapeutic needs of patients suffering from gender dysphoria. It questions certain medical responses, known as trans-affirmative, provided to these people. It defends a respectful approach to individuals who state they suffer from gender dysphoria and, consequently, questions the social trend defining gender identity as a characteristic completely distinct from biological sex.
Our mission
We support and encourage discourse based on biological and scientific reality. We promote adequate care for young people and vulnerable individuals who report suffering from gender dysphoria, and we prefer care based on scientific evidence.
Our vision
We believe that every human being has the right to express themselves freely and respectfully, regardless of their sex or experienced gender. We strive for a society in which everyone has the right to their individuality and in which the freedom of one person ends where that of another begins. We defend respect for all people, regardless of their sex, differences and the groups to which they belong.
Our fundamental values
- Universalism: Isomer is open to everyone, regardless of their political, religious or philosophical beliefs, who shares an interest in promoting the well-being of young people and vulnerable individuals.
- First, do no harm: Isomer substantiates its stances in accordance with this medical ethics principle.
- Scientific evidence: All support and promotion of medical care must be within the limits of what has been scientifically proven.
- Combating all forms of totalitarianism: Isomer opposes all forms of authoritarianism, groupthink and censorship that hinder dialogue and diversity of opinion.
- Hope for change: we believe that change towards respect for the individual is possible and that any distorted view of reality must give way to a return to a sufficiently objective reality.
- Defending and protecting minors and vulnerable persons: Isomer takes a position aimed at protecting minors and educating vulnerable persons to help them give informed consent.
Objectives
- To provide information about the biological reality of the sexes and about certain misleading information circulating in our society on this subject.
- Support a scientifically based care model for persons who indicate that they suffer from gender dysphoria.
- Inform professionals about the different forms of care for persons who indicate that they suffer from gender dysphoria, and about the consequences of a lack of scientific accuracy in some of these forms of care.
- Help schools and other institutions dealing with minors or vulnerable persons who report suffering from gender dysphoria to adopt a watchful attitude and prevent undesirable effects resulting from a lack of information.
- Help, advise and support families dealing with a person who reports suffering from gender dysphoria.
- Inform policymakers about the care of persons who indicate that they suffer from gender dysphoria, based on scientific evidence, and about the side effects and iatrogenic effects in the short, medium and long term when this scientific evidence is not taken into account.
